Electricity pricing reforms

The Northern Territory Government has introduced electricity pricing reforms that impact government customers.

Government customers as defined in the electricity pricing order are now charged cost reflective tariffs and are no longer eligible for the subsidised standard commercial tariff. There are limited exclusions, including sites on residential tariffs. View the EPO on the Utilities Commission website for further information.

For more information about the NT Government's pricing reforms, visit the Department of Treasury and Finance website.

Government tariffs

Government tariff customers are charged cost reflective tariffs and are not subsidised by the Northern Territory Government’s community service obligation.

Northern Territory Government and Commonwealth Government accounts have been updated and are charged the applicable government tariff from 1 July 2025.

Local government councils will be charged cost reflective tariffs from 1 July 2026. We will contact impacted local government accounts when these changes are applied in 2026.

Network charges

The major increase from the subsidised EPO rate is the network charges. These charges are passed on by the network provider, Power and Water. The network tariff (Tariff 2, 3b or 3c) is assigned by Power and Water and is allocated based on the meter type and/or annual electricity usage of the site.

For more information about network tariffs and charges, visit the Power and Water website

Tariffs and charges

As an electricity retailer, we bundle the price of electricity including network tariffs, the wholesale price of energy, environmental charges where applicable, and retail costs into the charges that appear on electricity bills.

Government tariffs are bundled into:

  • usage charges applied per kilowatt hour; and
  • a fixed daily charge applied each day electricity is supplied to a property.

These bundles are applied by site based on location and network tariff.
