Changes to regulated commercial tariffs
Electricity prices for business customers consuming less than 750 megawatt hours (MWh) annually are regulated and subsidised by the Northern Territory Government through the electricity pricing order (EPO).
The Northern Territory Government has announced electricity pricing reforms that apply to large user customers regulated under the EPO. For more information about the reforms, visit the Department of Treasury and Finance website.
Large user tariff
From 1 July 2025, a large user tariff applies to customers who consume between 500-750MWh per year. This tariff is set 5% higher than the standard commercial tariff.
The large user tariff applies from 1 July to 30 June each year and is applied based on electricity usage for the previous financial year.
Large user tariff* | GST exclusive | GST inclusive |
---|---|---|
Electricity rate | 33.37363 cents per kilowatt hour | 36.711 cents per kilowatt hour |
Fixed daily charge | 84.20 cents per day | 92.62 cents per day |
*Rates apply to large user tariff customers from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026.
Annual review
Sites are reviewed at the end of each financial year and remain on the allocated tariff for the full 12 months of the regulated period from 1 July to 30 June.
Customers will be notified of their annual review outcome after all usage data for the regulated period is calculated.
Tariff change
In rare circumstances, we may consider changing a large user tariff early. This would only happen if there is a demonstrated and sustained change to electricity usage. This may include:
- Installing solar PV at the property
- Significant changes to business operations that affect electricity usage.
Temporary reductions in usage due to milder weather or short-term changes wouldn't result in a tariff change.
