Energy bill relief

The Australian Government has announced funding to deliver temporary relief on power bills to Australian households and small businesses during 2024-2025 financial year.

Residential customers

Residential customers on the following tariffs will receive up to $300:

  • Domestic – Standard tariff
  • Domestic – Prepayment tariff
  • Domestic – Time of use tariff
  • Multipurpose tariff

The payment will be credited directly to your bill, or for prepayment meters it will be credited directly to the meter.

Business customers

Eligible businesses on the following tariffs consuming less than 160,000 kilowatt hours of electricity will receive up to $325:

  • Commercial – Standard tariff
  • Commercial – Time of use tariff
  • Public benevolent institution (PBI) tariff

How the payment will be applied

You will receive these payments as a credit on your bill, or as a credit to the meter for prepayment customers. Residential customers will receive $75 per quarter and eligible businesses will receive $81.25 per quarter.

Bill relief will be applied to open accounts within four weeks following the below dates:

  • Quarter 1: 11:59pm on 31 July
  • Quarter 2: 11:59pm on 30 September
  • Quarter 3: 11:59pm on 31 December
  • Quarter 4: 11:59pm on 31 March

You will need to have an open account with us on these dates to be eligible for that quarter’s bill relief. If you do not have an open account on these dates, you will not receive that quarter's bill relief.

FAQs

The bill relief will be delivered quarterly as a credit on your bill, or directly to the meter for prepayment customers. You do not need to contact us to receive the payment as it will be applied automatically.

  • Residential customers will receive their $300 bill relief as 4 quarterly credits of $75.
  • Eligible business customers will receive their $325 bill relief as 4 quarterly credits of $81.25.

Small business customers will be eligible if their electricity usage between 1 July 2023 and 30 Jun 2024 is below 160,000kWh.

Handy tip: If the business's power bills are greater than $3800 per month or over $11500 per quarter then they are probably using over 160,000 kwh per year.

Bill relief is credited quarterly. Your bill relief payments will depend on how many quarters of the 2024-25 financial year that you have an open account.

If you move and connect with another retailer you may be eligible for continued quarterly bill relief delivered by your new retailer.

The maximum bill relief credits you will receive over the financial year are $300 for residential customers and $325 for small business customers.

You can only receive one payment per quarter and it's not back-dated.

The bill relief can not be refunded.  If you do not use it (usually due to solar production), it will be forfeited.
