Here are some ways to manage your deceased loved one’s electricity quickly and simply.
You can decide which of the 4 options suits your needs best, and contact our team.
It is best if you have the name, address and account number available, but if not, we can still work with you.
1. Transfer the account
Transfer the account to a new name.
The person taking over the account will need to be the one making this request and provide their name, date of birth, and one form of identification.
Once the account name and details have been updated:
- a final bill will be issued to the estate of the original account holder
- there will no longer be access to the old account’s billing history.
2. Update a joint account holder
Update the name of the primary account holder or authorised contact.
3. Cancel the service
If electricity is no longer need at the property, you can close the account.
Anyone can place the request to cancel the service.
The final bill can be sent to the estate or a different email or postal address. The account can be paid out by anyone.
4. Temporary electricity supply
Keep the electricity connected for a short time before the account is closed.
To do this, you will need to provide:
- details of executors (the account will be renamed to ‘Estate of…’)
- date of disconnection
- updated postal address (if applicable).
