Connect or disconnect your electricity

Here's what you need to know about connecting electricity to your residential or business address, and/or disconnecting electricity at your old address.

Timeframes

For online requests, it can take up to 5 business days for your electricity to be connected.

If you need your electricity connected sooner, call us at 1800 522 262.

For same-day connections, you should place your request before 2:30pm.

What you’ll need

To place a connection request, you must be:

  • over 16 years of age
  • the account holder (person whose name will appear on the bill)
  • financially responsible for the account.

You should also provide 1 form of valid identification such as your passport, Australian Driver’s License, Australian proof of age card or an ImmiCard.

Newly built properties or solar systems

To connect electricity at a newly built property or connect a new solar system, you will also need to:

  • ensure either you or your electrician have submitted the basic connection application with Power and Water Corporation
  • provide us details of your Registered Electrical Contractor and required meter type.

Step 1: Contractor submits Basic Connection Form to Power and Water Corporation

Your Registered Electrical Contractor or solar installer submits a Basic Connection Form to Power and Water Corporation for review.

Power and Water Corporation then checks the application to ensure all technical requirements are met. Once accepted, they notify your contractor/installer.

An accepted Basic Connection Form means your contractor has permission to connect your new meter or solar PV system to the network.

Step 2: Contractor provides you with the accepted form

Once Power and Water Corporation has reviewed the form, your Registered Electrical Contractor or solar installer should notify you and send you a copy of the accepted Basic Connection Form.

This form contains the technical information that Jacana Energy needs to complete your electricity connection.

Step 3: Submit your connection request to Jacana Energy

Once you have your approved Basic Connection Form and required technical information, you can submit your connection request by either:
