What is the Solar for Social Housing Trial?
Jacana Energy, in conjunction with the Northern Territory Department of Territory Families, Housing and Communities (TFHC) and the Office of Sustainable Energy (OSE), are evaluating the costs and benefits of installing rooftop solar on social housing. We want to deliver lower-cost energy in the Northern Territory as part of the Solar for Social Housing Trial. The Trial will see 30 TFHC-owned houses across the Darwin-Palmerston and Tennant Creek regions have rooftop solar installed in 2024. If successful, the program may be extended for up to 20 years, with the offer rolled-out to more of the 5,000+ houses in the TFHC portfolio.
We are looking for a Solar Partner
An important aspect of the Solar for Social Housing program is finding suitable Trial partners who are as dedicated as we are to delivering the best outcomes to customers, and who understand the importance of using the Trail to establish a sustainable, long-term commercial model that enables future expansion of the program. As part of the Trial, we are looking for a partner who will:
-
Install, own and operate the rooftop solar assets located on public housing properties;
-
Sell the solar energy generated at each property to Jacana Energy over the term of the trial (and potentially beyond) via a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), and/or Lease the rooftop solar asset to and transfer title of the energy produced by the asset to Jacana Energy via an Operating Lease;
-
Collaborate on technical and commercial issues to enable greater benefits to customers, particularly those considered vulnerable.
