Sun Boosters solar trial

Sun Boosters solar trial

Jacana Energy and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Community Development (DHLGCD) are working together to install solar panels on some public housing homes. Installation is part of our Sun Boosters Trial and your home has been identified as one that might be suitable for solar panels. This means you could get cheaper electricity.

The Trial will see 30 social houses across the Darwin-Palmerston and Tennant Creek regions have rooftop solar installed in 2025. If successful, the program may be extended, with the offer rolled-out to more social houses in future.

A solar installer may come to your house
Houses that are selected for the Sun Boosters trial will have a solar system installed on their roof. This system will create solar energy and send it back to the grid.

Why is Jacana Energy running this trial?

This trial will see up to 30 social homes have solar panels installed on roofs. Jacana Energy and DHLGCD want to see how much benefit solar panels will provide to energy costs, tenants in social housing and the environment. The trial is designed to help share the benefits of renewable energy with social housing tenants.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are currently in the first phase of the trial. If we have visited your house there is nothing more you need to do. We will be in contact if you are selected to take part in the trial.

The next stage of the trial is selecting houses to receive a solar panel installation. We will take some time to look at the photos and information we have collected. Once we have all the information we need, we will make a decision on the final 30 houses.

You will not need to pay for the trial. Participants who are selected for the Sun Boosters trial will not need to pay anything towards the solar panels.

We aim to have the trial underway in 2025.

Every house selected in the trial will receive a 25% discount on their electricity tariff. We will have more information available before participants sign-up to the trial.
